What to do
- Write the words you want to practice with onto pieces of masking tape with a permanent marker.
- Tape the words randomly on the ball so that no words are touching.
- Gather your students together on the rug.
- Today, we are going to play a game called “Beach Ball Word Bounce.” During this game, we will throw a beach ball back and forth. Every time you catch the ball, I want you to read the word where one of your fingers lands. Let me show you how to read the word near your finger. Then I will show you how to throw the ball. I will throw it to ______ so _______ please be ready.
- Demonstrate how to look at one of your fingers and read a word out loud. Then throw the beach ball to the child you chose.
- Let’s start! Remember to throw the ball nicely and to throw it to someone you have not thrown it to before.
- Play the game for about 10 minutes.
- Excellent job! You are great at throwing, and at reading.
- Observe students play the game. For students who struggle, give them help and make a note in an Activity Log.
