From FreeReading

Jump to: navigation, search
Activity Type: Build Fluency
Activity Form: Standard
Grade: K
Group Size: Small Group, Whole Class
Length: 5 minutes
Materials: Optional: multiple copies of large letter cards (print them here)
Goal: Given a printed letter, the student can say its sound with automaticity ( a -> /a/ )
Items: All letter sounds learned so far

What to do

  1. Either write letters learned so far in large letters on the board, or display letter cards so that all are visible. (It's okay to have the same letter appear more than once.)
  2. Call on a student to be today's "Letter Leader." (Student name) is our Letter Leader for today. When he points to a letter, everyone has to say the sound for that letter. Ready?
  3. Let the Letter Leader continue for several letters. Watch for students who say nothing and make a note in an Activity Log.
