What to do
- Before beginning the game, print Irregular Word Cards and display them in the classroom on a Word Wall.
- Divide the class into two teams. Line up the teams.
- Today we are going to play a game called Smack the Wall. I am going to give one person from each team a fly swatter.
- Then I am going to say a word from the word wall. The first person to smack that word with their swatter earns a point for their team. After you smack the word, you must say it.
- Then both players must read the word again before they can return to their seats.
- Let’s get started.
- Repeat the game until each student has had a turn to go at least once.
- Observe students. For students who struggle, give them help and make a note in an Activity Log.
