Dolsch Word Bingo

Activity Type: Reintroduce
Activity Form: Game
Grade: K, 1, 2, 3
Group Size: Small Group
Length: 10 minutes
Materials: bingo boards with sight words already on them , sight word cards
Goal: Given sight words, the students will be able to read the word and match it to those on their board
Items: Dolsch word list

What to do

  1. Show the students the individual sight word cards
  2. Students are to say the words on the card out loud with the teacher
  3. Students are to look at their indidual bingo boards, reading the words that they have
  4. Sight word cards are laid flat on the table
  5. One at a time, turn the cards over, if a student recognises the card and it is on their board, they are to say BINGO
  6. If child reads the card correctly, they are to place the card on their board, faced upside down
  7. Continue until a board is completly covered
  8. Huuray! Celebrate success in all of the students.

About this activity

I used to use this in Scotland, when introducing new key vocabulary words for reading books. The students loved it! They ended up making their own bingo boards for other books.
