Materials: Individual student letter cards, Cards in the shape of bowling pins, bowling score sheet, a bag or container |
Goal: Given a dolch word, the student will be able to read the word quickly without sounding it out. |
Items: Dolch words or other vocabulary words |
What to do
- Write a word and a corresponding point value on every pin-shaped card. Put the paper bowling pins in a bag or other container.
- Have a student draw a pin out of the bag and read the word out loud. If the student reads the word correctly he or she gets the corresponding point value and records this on his or her score sheet.
- This step should be repeated for each student playing. Play proceeds by turns.
- At the end of a predetermined number of turns for each child, add up the points. The student with the highest score wins.
